Filem'On

Filem'On is an international film festival that welcomes young audiences from 2 to 16 years old, in more than 10 different venues in Brussels and Ghent (Belgium) during 11 days in autumn. Yearly, Filem'On selects about 130 films from all over the world, based on the festival's mission to offer its young audience films that cannot be found in mainstream cinemas. To inspire and connect professionals in the children film industry, Filem'On organizes an international exchange conference during the festival.

Filem'On is a non-profit organisation that sees film as an engine for awareness and change, and as a means of discussing difficult topics in class, such as discrimination and inequality in areas such as identity formation and diversity. Filem'On is a member of ECFA, CIFEJ and participates at EFA YAA. Hilde Steenssens is the Festival Director.

Primary activities

• Organizing an annual international film festival in Brussels
• The organization of participatory projects, during the festival and throughout the year in collaboration with community colleges, WMKjs , and (broad) schools, ATLs, IBOs, etc.
• Co-production of FilemKing (annual film festival for and by children in Ghent)
• Organisation of film screenings and film technical workshops in Brussels and Ghent
• Film programming as part of a monthly cinema club , other film festivals and events for children and young people in Brussels and Flanders
