Berty Ashley

Berty Ashley is a musician, music curator, vinyl archivist, indie music catalyst, & music promoter who has done 2 TedX talks.
Performer
Born in a musical family, Berty began his musical journey in school. He plays the bass guitar, keyboards, and western drums, and presently has three bands, each for a different kind of occasion:
- Groove BLR |
- Lightworkers | a high-energy band for corporate and private events covering Pop and Rock music.
- Stool Pigeons | a three-piece lounge act that delivers mellow, intimate sets.

- A science-meets-music show inspired by the Periodic Table | at Science Gallery, Bengaluru.
- A multimedia, interactive, time-travelling journey through 100 years of music in Bangalore | at the Bangalore International Centre.
Vinyl archivist
Berty has a collection of over 350 vinyl records, spanning all the way from Death Metal to Filmi Music and Sufi Music, and he regularly hosts Long Play Listening Parties (LPLPs) celebrating albums in their intended form. His work within India’s vinyl community has been featured in The Hindu.
Music promoter
During the pandemic, Berty along with Navin Dorai founded OriginalDog, a platform built to support independent artists globally. Today, it is one of Southeast Asia’s most valued indie-artist platforms, hosting artists across genres and geographies. His views on independent music have been featured on WAMU. Berty is also the co-founder of Chuck & Berty’s, a global WhatsApp community of over 700 musicians and music lovers. The group actively shares discoveries, collaborates, and amplifies independent music worldwide.
