Cinema Society of India
Cinema Society of India was founded by Dalton. For the first four years, monthly screenings were conducted at Eka - the art gallery, in Fort Cochin. Presently, in association with Minimal Cinema, screenings take place every week at Kozhikode /Calicut, Kerala.
In addition to the regular screenings, the Society has organised a special Woman's Day event at Sacred Heart College, and conducted classes in film appreciation, wildlife photography, and art restoration.
Roots
By the early 80s, Ritwik Ghatak sir’s prized student, the wandering bohemian filmmaker John Abraham, had made Fort Cochin his home away from home in Kozhikode. John’s circle of artist friends established two film screening societies: Prachodana (lit., “Inspiration”; downtown, in that quaint old heritage suburb) and Cochin Film Society (uptown). The former would eventually fade away for quite a while before its revival decades later by a film critic. The new avatar is rechristened as Cinema Society of India.
Film Festival
The Mumbai International Student Film Festival is organised by Film Critics Circle of India (FCCI) in association with Cinema Society of India.
